August 20 Great trip! 2 Aug to 17 Aug 08It's my first time to travel for 2 weeks in the Europe. Most of the time we explore the streets using the maps and it's really an adventurous journey to say!
For that 2 weeks I have been to Madrid, barcelona, Nice, Milan, Rome, Venice, Vienna and Mainz in Germany.
Every places have the highlights. Just to mention a few. I felt that Nice, Venice and Vienna is the most interesting for me.
Madrid: Highlight is to watch bull fighting 斗牛 in the evening as we happen to be there on sunday. Cost is 5 Euros. It's a 2 hour show and in total 5 bull died.
Barelona: Sight seeing at the harbourfront and the beach is nice. Also the buskers at the street performance are superb esp their costumes.
Nice: It's located southern France. Going up the castle hill is wonderful view of the beach and also we manage to travel to Monaco to see the landscape and Monte Carlos (Grand Casino).
Milan: I was there for just 4 hours so I only went to see the Duomo (a big church) in Milan
Rome: Visiting the Vatican city and Colosseo is the highlight of the trip
Venice: Riding the Vaporetta to the Islands is a wonderful experience. It's interesting that the city is served by boats and not by 4 vehicles
Vienna: Listening to the Wiener Mozart Orchester
Mainz: SPending the time with my friends Simone, Bernd and Holger is awesome! They showed us around the city and even prepare meals for us.
Now just share abit about the concert in Vienna.
I was with a friend only and 2 of us didn't want to buy the tickets initially as it is expensive but after the guy offered us student price 19 Euros we accepted it and didn't regret.
It's first time in my life to listen to Mozart Orchestra performing and I was given a seat next to the Orchestra at the stage.
It's a journey back to 18th century with 30 musicians of the Vienna Mozart Orchestra and renowned opera singers and soloists. All of them were in historical costumes and wigs. Principally the choice of works gives an impression of an authentic concert of the baroque era.
There's just too much things to see for the travelling and it's not possible to describe all of it. Do scan through the photos if you have the time. ;) December 18 Outing to Pengerang JB with cgOn 9 Dec 2007 my cg bros and sisters went to Pengerang to eat seafood and celebrate Magdelene's and Elder Teo birthday. Also farewell for Duane who is stepping down from cg leader and Liang Fa is taking over.
We had seafood for lunch and it's cheap and nice. It cost only 20SGD per person with vegetable, crabs, lobsters, wild boar meat and a big fish...
October 23 15 Oct 2002 I was sailing to NigeriaHi everyone,
Challenges in times whereby I am expected to do certain things on my own like completing a job task which I may not have experience working on them. Then with the many different nationalities on board this ship, it is difficult in the beginning for me to get to know them because I came to join the ship as an individual and not like the rest as a group of about 50-80 of them. As for spiritual growth much of it have to come by through experiencing God.I learn that only if I step out of my comfort zone that I can truely see amazing things that God is doing. In Gabon, I met a person who went to study engineering in Nanjing and married a chinese woman. Now, they have a boy who is already one year old. It surprises me when I hear that he speaks mandarin. In addtion, his Mandarin is so powerful..good pronunciation with the china accent. We(myself and some other chinese people on board) invited him to the ship for a meal and pass him some gospel tracts. To further our relationship, he actually invited us to his house and a tour around the beach. Currently the ship will be sailing into West Africa, the first port we go to is Nigeria. We will be expecting a large crowd of people and we continue to pray that God can help us to manage this large thousands of visitor per day. I will be going to a medical team in Nigeria with 4 other people, please pray for the team that we can be sensitive to the Lord's leading and be involve in what he is doing. Every night we will be showing Jesus film and perhaps this is my best chance to talk to the local people. In this port, they are all english speaking people. We will be reaching Nigeria on Thursday morning if everything goes well. 18 Oct 2002 Hello everyone, Unity was the thing that people from the last port Gabon view the ship. They asked how would people from different countries with various cultures and languages be together on a ship, it must be something special for them. Indeed that the people see God in us. I met a friend from cameroun who extended his stay on the ship because he sense that this is where God wants him to be and that he sees that the people are so united as a family that makes him enjoy his stay on the ship, the love and care shown. In Nigeria the ship don't have a phone line, so the IT department is storing the emails and bringing them on shore and download them. Therefore I guess by the time you receive my updates I am already on the practical team at the hospital from 20th-26th Oct. On knowing that our team has set to not only share about Jesus Christ with the people but also praying together with them. We may meet with a lot of patients and for me God has impress on my heart that only through remaining in Him then I can have strength for each new day. Currently we still don't know where are we going to stay, what can we contribute to the hospital work. October 13 My KK trip part 2- worthwhile to go again22 Sep(Sat),
After staying over a night at my big sister's (Fiona) place. Ming Chye and I set off to walk to the KK city centre to shop and also get a cab to the Kota Kinabalu Park as we have booked a dorm up in the mountain. We managed to get a cab for 80MYR but only 2 of us, so we waited to see got any other people whom we can share cab with. Thankfully we met a German couple who is willing to share the cab with us.
In the cab we shared a lot about our country, cultures and our work. Haha.. didn' expect to be able to make friends during holidays trips. Before we go our own ways, we exchanged contacts and we are welcome to visit them if we go to Germany while we are at Norway. Yeah!
It was 1.30pm when we checked into our dorm---"Grace Hostel". It was a very cosy, comfortable and nice place to stay. Since we had a late breakfast, we changed into our trekking attire and went trekkng straight away.
At abt 3pm, we had a tea break at a restaurant. Ming Chye had a nasi lemak (10MYR) while I had vegetarian egg omelete! The food is nice and the scenary infront of the restaurant is also spectacular!
Ming Chye felt drowsy as he took the cough syrup and he went back after the tea break while I continue my trekking to see the sunset.
I was back at the dorm at 6pm just in time for shower. Ming Chye told me, no hot shower. I thought couldn't be, they told us there is hot shower. I tried the tap and yes there is hot shower.. Then I really pity Ming Chye that he took cold shower.keke he should hv waited 3-5mins for the hot water to flow into the tap. poor thing...
Then at 7.30pm we went for a slide show presentation of Mount Kinabalu, we learnt about the different kinds of species and plants that we can find. It really helps me to appreaciate more about God's creation. It also brought back wonderful memories when I climbed the mountain in 2003.
We also get to know our dorm mate--Sophie who was a traveller from East Canada. She has been travelling for a year. Guess how old is she? She dun look like 35 lor...she looks younger.
We slept at 10pm coz Ming Chye and I plan to wake up at 4.30am to go trekking and to see sunrise...
Will write again next time... October 03 Thankful...coz I have a nice bossHi all,
If u knew about me, I was working with a marine services company dealing with safety during my 3 months vacation recently. I went back to Atlasmarine to visit my colleagues and my boss during the mid Autumn festival on 25 Sep.
We had a short meeting together and he informed me about the latest development to the business and we are expanding into the European markets. Exciting siahz! Then he also told me that the company needed an experience sales engineer and I promise to help him source for it from the pool of NTU postgrads.
During the meeting, I stated that I hope to go back to work in the sales department during Dec holidays and he gave me a 'green' light for it. Just that he wants me to do research on sales, not on the tactics but on what to prepare for doing sales and what to look out for.
Just before I left, he shoke hands with me and told me something which I felt very comforted and touched.
" Don't worry! be assured that the company will give u the full exposures and supports that you will need." I was very thankful to get this job and to know these people. Even though I was offered by my boss to come back to work with them when I graduated, I didn't reply him yet coz I am still searching for my interest and directions. Perhaps I will know the answer after my attachment in year 3 bah.
Marine Industries is so big and I believe there's a space in the sky for everyone to be part of this growing sector.
